Alejandro Lozano Robledo, MDes

Director of the Future Mobility Design (FMD) Lab, University of Cincinnati

Human-centered researcher and mobility designer with a fascination for the future. Currently leading the Future Mobility Design Lab at the University of Cincinnati, focusing on collaborating with key industry, government, academic, and Non-Profit partners; to co-create innovative proposals that address real-world opportunities and improve people's quality of life. Mobility and the future of cities are all about PEOPLE. Growing up in Bogotá, Colombia, it used to take me 15 minutes to ride the bus to school in the morning but a full 2 hours to return home during rush hour traffic. I've always been fascinated by the untapped potential of our cities and focus my research on their future and how we move around them. With the right empathic and technological approach, we can lead a new kind of revolution where cities are designed for people and not cars. A future where we use exciting new trends and technologies such as autonomy, smart cities, shared economy, AI, and transit-oriented development, to drastically change the norm. Constructing the urban fabric around walkability and accessibility for everyone. Designing mobility around parks, libraries, museums, and community initiatives. Where more than going from A to B, it’s about How and Why; essentially focusing on meaningful and enriching experiences while in motion. Mobility is so much more than transportation. Mobility is about people and their motivations. It’s about why we move around and how we can reclaim our cities, because ultimately, “transportation is not the end; it’s the means to a purpose” – Chen, 2019 https://ucdigitalfutures.com/future-mobility-design-lab/
